Why Essential Oils? Part I

We all know and recognize the fruits of plants as some of the healthiest things we can put into our mouths. Fruits, seeds, and vegetables are filled with countless nutrients and antioxidants that enrich our bodies and bolster our immune and other body systems. Whenever our bodies are compromised in any way, changing to a more natural diet is one of the first things we generally think of. Allergen free diets, anti-inflammatory diets and many other usually first encourage the increase of fruits, vegetables, and seeds.

One must wonder, if fruits, veggies, and seeds are so full of natural goodness, what about the plants that produce them?

“He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth;” – Psalm 104:14

In all reality, because of the functions and duties of plants, they have an even greater ability to assist with natural body function and support. Dried herbs, spices, and essential oils have been used for their medicinal benefits for centuries. Scriptures and other ancient writings frequently mention the use of her, oils, and spices. They were valued very highly and were often kept with silver, gold, and other precious things.

“And Hezekiah was glad of them, and shewed them the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious ointment, and all the house of his armour, and all that was found in his treasures:” – Isaiah 39:2

What are essential oils, and why are they so important?

Just as blood is the life force of our bodies that work as a defense system and distributes oxygen, nutrients, and other things throughout our bodies, essential oils are the life force of plants. They are a highly concentrated form of the nutrients, natural defense system protecting against bacterial and viral infections, cleansing agents, and function enhancing chemicals of the plants they are derived from. As you can see, there are some striking similarities between the functions of our blood and essential oils. This is part of why essential oils work so well in supporting and enhancing our own body system.
