100 Essential Oils in 100 Days - Day 3 - Basil

Did you know... Italian women actually wore basil to attract possible suitors!

The origin of the word "Basil" actually came from the Greek word "basileum," which literally translates into the word "king." The Greeks actually referred to basil as the "king of all plants!"

This is actually is pretty neat to me, considering HOW MUCH basil can be used for! Some of the favorite uses for basil are to help refresh the mind and restore mental alertness, soothe and relax muscles, respiratory support, and coolant for the skin!

Basil essential oil is derrived from the steam distilled from the leaves, stems and flowers of the basil plant.

Young Living blends containing basil are Aroma Siez (FAVORITE!!!), Clarity and M-Grain. Those names give you a hint as to how AMAZING this stuff is?

Main systems it is used to support:
-Cardiovascular
-Muscle and Bone

And if that wasn't enough... Basil vitality essential oil is a MUST in your kitchen! You've not lived until you've had some Tomato Basil Soup made with this stuff!

100 Oils in 100 Days - Day 2 - Myrtle

Did you know that Myrtle was referred to in the Bible six times? In Esther 2:7, Esther is referred to as Hadassah which is the Hebrew name for Myrtle! To the ancient Jews, myrtle was symbolic of peace and justice. Also, the word Myrtle, derived from Latin, means "chaste beauty". Quite fitting for Esther's role, isn't it?

Myrtle oil is distilled from the leaves of the tree, and has been studied greatly for it's purification properties.

The chemistry of Myrtle oil is very close to that of Frankincense, and is supportive of the respiratory system, skin, and hair. In the past it has been researched for its effects on glandular imbalances. It is also helpful for meditation and lifting the spirit.

Did you know that many brides today still wear Myrtle as a symbol of innocence?

Isaiah 55:13
“Instead of the thorn bush will grow the pine tree, and instead of briers the myrtle will grow. This will be for the LORD’s renown, for an everlasting sign, which will not be destroyed.”
Nehemiah 8:15
"Go forth onto the mount, and fetch olive branches, and pine branches, and myrtle branches, and palm branches, and branches of thick trees, to make booths, as it is written".

100 Essential Oils in 100 Days - Day 1 - Angelica

The scientific name for it is Angelica arcangelica. It has also been referred to as "Female Ginseng," which I actually find rather humorous. :D

Angelica is a very unique essential oil, as one would assume by it's name. In years past it's powerful effect on health and wellness caused the plant and its oil to be believed that it was of divine origin. It was even called the "Oil of Angels" by many Europeans. During the plague of 1660, the stems of the angelica plants were chewed and the seeds and roots burned as it was believed to purify the air and prevent infection.

Today we can see very easily through science that it is definitely a powerful oil, causing great support in the nervous system and aiding greatly in promoting emotional balance. Many people also use it to aid in healthy digestion and absorption as well.

Angelica essential oil is derived from the steam distilled from the seeds and roots of the plant. Suggested dilution ratios are 50/50, and as it is a photosensetive oil, it is advised not to use it when you will be in direct contact with sun light.

Young Living blends containing Angelica are: Awaken, Forgiveness, Grounding, Harmony, Live with Passion, Oola Balance and Surrender.

Systems it supports:
-Nervous System
-Digestive System
-Hormonal Balance
-Emotional Balance
